Your Marketing Platform Just Changed and You Might Not Have Noticed
You log into your email and SMS platform the same way every Monday, check the campaign results, tweak a segment, move on. That routine hasn’t changed. What’s changed is what else can now log in alongside you, and most small business owners running these platforms have no idea it’s already happening.
The problem: your data just got a lot more accessible
At its K:BOS event on 9 September 2026, Klaviyo announced it’s opening its entire platform to outside AI systems. The update, called Klaviyo Headless, gives other AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT more than 260 tools and 490 APIs to read from and write to your account directly, no login required. On top of that, Klaviyo added natural language queries that convert plain English questions into SQL run against your own customer data, plus a new Compliance Hub built into the platform.
Why this matters more than it sounds like it does
CEO Andrew Bialecki described the thinking behind Klaviyo’s new personalisation tools this way: “Choose what to optimize for, engagement, conversions, and set the guardrails.” That’s the shift in one line. You’re no longer just choosing which email to send. You’re setting the boundaries an AI system operates inside, and then it’s making a lot of the day to day calls for you, on audience targeting, timing and even what content gets sent.
What it means for your business
If your list hygiene is solid and your segments are set up properly, this is a genuine time saver, the platform quietly getting smarter about who gets what, and when. If your data has been a bit of a mess for a while (dead segments, unclear tags, old integrations nobody remembers connecting), that mess is now something more systems can touch, not fewer. The businesses that get the most out of this next wave of marketing AI are the ones who tidy up the data foundation first, not the ones who bolt AI on top of chaos and hope for the best.
Where to start
Pull up your platform’s connected apps or integrations list this week and actually read it. Check who and what can access your customer data right now, not who you set it up with two years ago. Then have someone who isn’t guessing look at your segmentation and list hygiene before you lean harder into any of these new AI features. Getting that foundation right is what makes the rest of it actually work.
